In the year 1908 Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad III started the bank in Baroda, Gujarat and is the highest gaining PSU bank in the country. It is the second largest bestower in terms of annual profit. Bank of Baroda’s head office is located in Vadodara. The bank is having revenue of Rs 25,800 crore and an income of Rs 4,433 crore and a total asset of Rs 355,826 crore.
Bank of Baroda’s first branch was started rolling in Ahmedabad at the period of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III of the Maratha Empire. In 1957 the bank started operating abroad to serve the Indian societies in Kenya and in Uganda, in the same year it started operation in London as London is considered as the International Banking. In 1961 Bank of Baroda assimilate with New Citizen Bank of India which helped it to expand the branches in Maharashtra. In the same year it started operating in Fiji. Then the next year opened a branch in Mauritius. In the year 1963 Bank of Baroda merged with Surat Banking Corporation in Gujarat. In 1967 Tanzanian Government nationalized three branches of Bank of Baroda and shifted their operations to the National Banking Corporation possessed by the Tanzanian Government. Bank of Baroda is operating around 25 countries.
The people who played vital role in developing the growth of the bank are Maharaja Sayaji Rao Gaekwad, Ralph Whitenack, Vithaldas Thakersey, Tulsidas Kilachand and NM Chokshi. Shri MD Mallya is the chairman and Managing Director of the Bank of Baroda.

Bank of Baroda and Manipal University jointly started school of banking with an aim of prior training in banking and finance during college days.
