The area of engineering that basically imparts with the learning and relevance of electrical energy and its related subjects like the electronic and electromagnetism is called electrical engineering. The persons who are engaged in this field are called electrical engineers. In different Universities this course is known by different names like Bachelor of Applied Science, Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Engineering, or Bachelor of Science. Along with subjects related to electrical engineering the other subjects included for learning are mathematics, computer science, physics etc. In some of the universities electronics form a part of electrical engineering. While in some others both are considered to be different subjects. Some electrical engineers opt for doing a postgraduate degree like a Master of Engineering Management, a Master of Engineering, etc. Some think of even doing a PhD in Engineering. Either a research work or course work or even both are included in the master’s degree. An important research component is included in the Doctor of Philosophy and Engineering Doctorate degrees. The contribution of electrical engineers is very vast in the advancement of a wide variety of technologies including Global Positioning System and generation of electricity. Though the computers help a lot in this field from designing electrical programs to other related electrical works but still the talent drafting ideas quickly cannot be neglected. The particular work into which an electrical engineer is employed will make him decide what type of circuit theory to be applied. An engineer working on VLSI, the design of integrated circuits will use the quantum mechanics and solid state physics while using the very same thing in macroscopic electrical systems is immaterial. Apart from technical skills to understand technical language and related concepts, an electrical engineer must have good knowledge of computers and must be good at arithmetic and should also have good project management as well as written communication skills.
